Upfront Comedy "the most enterprising black comedy promoters in the country" (The Guardian) was set up in 1992 by comedian John Simmit, best known for playing Dipsy in BBC TV's international phenomenon Teletubbies, originally for a one-off show at Birmingham's New Alexandra Theatre.
Since then Upfront has produced regular comedy series in all the UK's major cities, programmed Club Class, a 13 part series for Channel 5, giving the first UK dates & TV exposure to some of today's biggest international comedians such as Russell Peters, JB Smoove & the late Patrice O'Neal. Upfront's many national UK tours include Sistas Wid Gags, New York Talk & 3 Kings, as well as debut tours for Gina Yashere & Curtis Walker.
Internationally Upfront has produced the revue show Getting Any at the National Black Theater Festival in North Carolina & Stand Up Black Britain at the New York Fringe Festival. Upfront continues to produce the most diverse shows for the most diverse audiences in the country's best theatres as it approaches its 25th anniversary
